Sarah’s Key
by Tatiana de Rosnay
(copies available now at the FJC)
“This is a remarkable historical novel, a book which brings to light a disturbing and deliberately hidden aspect of French behavior towards Jews during World War II. Like Sophie's Choice, it's a book that impresses itself upon one's heart and soul forever.” –Naomi Ragen, author of The Saturday Wife and The Covenant “Sarah's Key unlocks the star crossed, heart thumping story of an American journalist in Paris and the 60-year-old secret that could destroy her marriage. This book will stay on your mind long after it's back on the shelf.” –Risa Miller, author of Welcome to Heavenly Heights
New York Times bestseller Sarah’s Key has already captured the attention of readers worldwide, critics, and numerous congregants. In response to a keen interest in sharing their enthusiasm for this book and to further community dialogue about artistic portrayals of the Shoah, I have chosen it to inaugurate an annual Jewish literacy program at the Falmouth Jewish Congregation. This year and in the future, the entire congregation is invited to read a single book during the course of a given year, starting at High Holy Days. Discussions will be held at different times of the year to accommodate our diverse membership. Because of the setting of Sarah’s Key, the first discussion will be held at the time of Yom HaShoah, with a second discussion set for the summer of 2010, when snowbirds return. Multiple copies are available in the Righter Library. If there is not a copy available for you, please add your name to a waiting list in the office.
Our second community discussion will take place on Thursday, July 8 at 7:30 P.M. Open to members only. Please RSVP. Back to the Education News Section |
