Shabbat Across America

 

On Friday Night March 3, 2006, hundreds of synagogues across the continent will take part in an historic national Jewish event to celebrate what unifies all Jews ---Shabbat! This event, hosted at the FJC by the Committee for Outreach and Synagogue Community will begin in Speen Hall on March 3rd, 2006 with a catered Shabbat meal and will be followed by welcoming the Sabbath together at a 7:00pm family service.  And everyone is invited...singles, couples, families, all ages are welcome. We are 25! Let's Party!

If we need a reason to celebrate then we have a great one!  The FJC is celebrating it’s 25th year and on March 18th, the Committee for Outreach and Synagogue Community will host a joyful afternoon long celebration.  We invite EVERY member to join us to create a communal tallit.  We follow that where we encourage everyone to bring their friends and family to enjoy a concert by Jewish musician and composer Rick Calvert (who composed the beautiful Yismchu we sing at services), participate in Havdalah and be with us for an international potluck supper.  The day begins at 2 with the creation of the talit. The concert will be at 4 and Havdallah at 5. Come for one event, come for the entire afternoon, bring the children, bring your friends and be part of the FJC family.  Sign up for the Tallit creation requires preregistration.

"Visioning Tibet" - Award-winning documentary to be shown

On Saturday, January 28, we will host Dr. Marc Lieberman, founder of the Tibet Vision Project, for a screening of the award-winning film by Isaac Solotaroff, Visioning Tibet.

Dr. Uri ten Brink to speak on Tsunami Threats in the Caribbean

Dr. Uri ten Brink, Geophysicist at the U.S. Geological Survey in Woods Hole and Adjunct Scientist at WHOI, will speak on the topic of tsunami threats in the Caribbean on Saturday, February 5 at 12:30pm. This event is hosted by the Falmouth Jewish Congregation at 7 Hatchville Road and is open to the public. Dr. ten Brink will bring his expertise to a timely discussion of the recent tsunami and will discuss his research into earthquake zones around the world and the particular tsunami threat that faces the Caribbean and the Atlantic Coast.
