Ben Gurion: Epilogue - A Documentary Film Program & Discussion for Yom HaAtzmaut (Israeli Independence Day)

Thursday, May 9 at 3:00 P.M. / Free and open to the public / Includes refreshments and post-film discussion

On a day when we pause to reflect on Israel’s past, present, and future, here is a film that sheds fresh light on one of the country’s greatest leaders and on Israel itself. This fascinating and refreshing film brings to life a lost 1968 interview with of one of modern history's greatest leaders, David Ben-Gurion, with footage reshaped by director Yariv Mozer, who adds news footage and clips to put Ben-Gurion’s political and personal life in the context of the times. Ben-Gurion’s message, in the sessions conducted five years before his death, is, at this point, largely a peaceful, non-expansionist one that contrasts sharply with many of the Israeli voices in the settlement film. It conveys a satisfying, informative portrait of a well-read man who looks back at his life, good decisions and bad, with wisdom and intelligence. Ben-Gurion's introspective soul-searching provides a surprising vision for crucial decisions Israel needs to make today. At the time of the global leadership crisis, the film also brings thought-provoking insights about the role of leaders in today's complex world.
