John Basile Cape Cod Jazz From Colombo to the ColumnsThis special entertainment will be open to FJC members and the public and will feature great music, interesting local history, great refreshments, and book sales.

John Basile will be reading passages from his book "Cape Cod Jazz From Colombo to the Columns" and the Cape Cod Jazz Quartet will perform songs by some of the jazz musicians mentioned in the book.

John Basile is the local host of "All Things Considered" on CAI, the Cape and Islands NPR stations. Prior to that, he was for many years the managing editor of The Register newspaper in the Mid-Cape. In addition to his work as a news reporter and editor, John is a lifelong jazz aficionado, avid record collector and former musician. His interest in jazz led him to write "Cape Cod Jazz From Colombo to the Columns," a history of jazz on the Cape which highlights the people who created a thriving jazz scene in an unlikely place.

The Cape Cod Jazz Quartet (CCJQ) is comprised of four of Cape Cod’s top Jazz Musicians with Steve Ahern on trumpet, flute & vocals from Cape Cod & Florida, Fred Boyle on piano from South Yarmouth, Ron Ormsby on bass from Centerville, and Bart Weisman on drums from Orleans. The CCJQ has appeared at concerts, events, weddings, and restaurants across Cape Cod including the Provincetown Jazz Festival. The CCJQ has accompanied vocalists Dane Vannatter, Siobhan Magnus, Cassandre McKinley, Tish Adams, Leslie Boyle, Lori Colombo, Krisanthi Pappas, and has two recordings including one with Dane Vannatter.
