June is LGBTQ PRIDE Month!

While an in-person celebration of Cape Cod PRIDE Month is not possible this year, we nonetheless celebrate the LGBTQ community and, as Jews, lift up notable Jewish LGBTQ people.

Stan Samuelson (z”l), a member of FJC’s Social Justice Committee before his untimely death, played a huge role in revitalizing the Cape’s PRIDE Month celebration and he encouraged our congregation to acquire and display a series of posters honoring significant LGBTQ Jews. Until such time as you can view them in our building, we will share them here on our webpage. Here is the first in a series of six images produced by Keshet, promoting LGBTQ equality in Jewish life.

Rabbi Sandra Lawson

Rabbi Sandra is a veteran, a vegan, a weightlifter, and one of the first queer women rabbis of color. As Associate Chaplain for Jewish Life at Elon University, Sandra explores ways to build diverse and welcoming communities. “We are raising a generation of Jews to look past whomever their grandfathers’ rabbis were. One of the things I want the larger Jewish community to understand is that rabbis today are a diverse group. Many are people of color. Many are not straight. Many might be married to non-Jews. My difference, my diversity, is helping people become aware of that.”
