We regret that this JBC author talk is limited to FJC members only, due to the need to hold it via Zoom.

Join Rebecca Erbelding, a historian of American responses to the Holocaust, for an illustrated presentation on her most recent book, Rescue Board: The Untold Story of America’s Efforts to Save the Jews of Europe (Doubleday, 2018), winner of the 2018 National Jewish Book Award for Writing Based on Archival Material (the JDC-Herbert Katzki Award). As always, a Q & A will follow. We encourage you to purchase a copy of Rescue Board from Eight Cousins Bookstore in Falmouth, which is handling sales online. You can arrange for shipping or curbside pickup.

Rescue Board details the work of the War Refugee Board, a US government agency–run by a group of Treasury Department lawyers, most of them in their 30s–which rescued Jews during the Holocaust. They begged, borrowed, bribed, laundered money, falsified documents, opened a refugee camp, and threw the weight of the United States government behind their plans, ultimately saving tens of thousands of lives. Read an excerpt from the book here.

Ms. Erbelding is also a historian, archivist, and curator at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
